New Olympus PEN Stop Motion Is Larger Than Life

PEN GiantAbout ten months ago, Olympus presented The PEN Story, a stop motion animation made entirely using Olympus’ PEN camera.  The PEN Story production team shot over 70,000 pictures to make the stop motion film, which chronicles a life through photographs, and the video received more than 2.4 million views on YouTube.  Olympus has outdone themselves with a new addition to the PEN Story collection—PEN Giant, a stop motion made using 355 photos printed in billboard size that take stop motion to the streets.

According to the video’s description, the entire film was made with the Olympus PEN.  There was no computer animation involved and no tricks.  This is truly remarkable.  As if stop motion was not hard enough to begin with, these creators had to deal with huge, billboard sized photos, city traffic and more.  This is a fantastic idea for a video campaign, because it was made entirely using the product that the video is promoting– the Olympus PEN camera.

PEN Giant has been viewed just over 12,600 times in the first two days. That is a far cry from the 2.4 million views The PEN Story received in its first ten months.  However, as the new video takes the original to the next level it is likely to get just as many, if not more, views than it’s counterpart.

On a personal note, I absolutely adore stop motion and am blown away by both of these videos.  I can’t wait to see what Olympus comes out with next!  Check out both clips below and let us know what you think.  How do you think the PEN Giant compares to the original PEN Story?

  • I'm amazed of how they made this advertisement, I love Olympus and their cameras. I'm loving the new EPL1 that they have released and used on the first video.
