Yahoo Acquires Facebook Fantasy Sports Game-Makers Citizen Sports

YAHOOLOGOYahoo today announced that they are acquiring Citizen Sports, a company that creates fantasy sports leagues for Facebook, iPhone, Android and other devices.  The acquisition is meant to enhance Yahoo’s position in social games and fantasy sports, and “strengthen Yahoo!’s social strategy of enriching, aggregating and distributing social content from across the entire Web, and offering a highly customizable social experience.”

Citizen Sports various applications allow people to play in fantasy leagues, fi ll out brackets, check out live scores and read news on various sports.  This of course complements Yahoo’s existing sports fantasy leagues and Yahoo Sports site, which is the #1 site on the web for sports with 30 million unique users on the web in the US.  This acquisition is ostensibly a move towards spreading out the popular Yahoo Sports leagues and news onto other platforms and Social Networks.  I know a lot of people that use the Yahoo sports leagues, and it certainly would be useful to be able to play these games on their iPhones or on Facebook.

Citizen sports has had reasonable success on Facebook, with its sports bracket application amassing 600,000 MAU, and other applications having similar successes.  See the roster of Citizen Sports games here.

Financial details were not disclosed, but you can read about the acquisition here.

  • yahoo has already acquired lots of previously owned social media networking stuff. May it be a game, or an email stuff, or anything. Yahoo has been stable in social media networking, that's why they always make it possible to stabilize others too.
  • Great thanks guys
  • We really don't know what is really happening out there. We hear the news but we don’t know what are the terms, what they agreed upon what money are they negotiating at. Creating and maintaining websites is pretty easy now a days and cost effective too.. And you get your ranks up it sells like hot cakes.... I wish I know what sites to make and sell it for lots of money.
  • i can really say that yahoo is BIG TIME already. i have been hearing in the news that Yahoo bought this and that.. whooo!just big time!
  • This is a excellent posting, I located your website browsing aol for a related topic and arrived to this. I couldn't get to much other details on this piece, so it was great to find this one. I will probably end up being back to check out some other posts that you have another time....

I think Yahoo's leap into fantasy sports will definitely increase support from a different group of consumers. Also their Replica Handbags Wholesale China
    Replica Handbags Wholesale cheap
cross-channel approach will change the way that consumers interact with the product.
  • Looks like a great move to kill the competition. Now that Yahoo is also stepping in to fantasy leagues, this is sure to beat them all, at least most of them. A citizen sport has had reasonable success on Facebook. People that use the Yahoo sports leagues, and it certainly would be useful to be able to play these games on their iPhones or on Facebook.
  • Well.. why not. It will definitely be another great feature of yahoo then. additional games, and news that provides information, entertainment and fun with Yahoo and not just merely checking emails and chatting. keep thinking of brilliant ideas :)

It's just a game between Google and Yahoo about who'll get the more promising companies, isn't it? A fantasy game you might even say :)
  • Wow, interesting :)
  • But why does Yahoo need to do so.
Yahoo is itself a Giant of this field.
  • I wondered this, too. But, I guess Yahoo figures you can never get enough publicity....

  • This will be very interesting. Yahoo owning a major player in the FB app industry. I wonder if Microsoft will be tapping to Zuck's shoulder to get him to pull the app :)
