iFail: The New Apple iPad Becomes The Brunt Of All Jokes

iPad IconWhile the tech press can’t get enough of the new Apple iPad, the new tablet computer from Apple has become the brunt of all jokes on the internet. To make matters worse, the company has developed a promotional video that is ripe for parody. The primary question that the new iPad can’t answer: why on earth do I need one? As a gadget junkie I kind of want one but there is really no purpose for purchasing one.

Yes, You Can Browse The Internet!!

Watch the video below and you can see the enthusiasm that one of the Apple employees has about browsing the internet on a bigger screen, as if that’s actually a selling point. “It just feels right to hold the internet in your hands as you surf it!” Is he kidding? Not at all! He continues, “With a screen this large, you can just see MORE of the web as you are surfing it.” Sounds like they were out of other selling points.

When I want a bigger screen than my iPhone, I turn to my laptop. While having a computer that is thinner makes a lot of sense, why would you want one that has a substantial amount of lock-in (you can’t make any configuration changes to the operating system, all applications come through the Apple managed iTunes store, etc)?

Twitter is now filled with tons of iPad jokes and “iTampon” has strangely become a trending topic, littered with numerous (often dirty) jokes. There’s also a 2006 MAD Tv sketch that had an imaginary iPad product that females could use (for obvious purposes). I can just see the many new parody jokes that will circulate over the coming days and weeks. The problem with the iPad is not just its name but the fact that you can’t come up with a reason for buying it. iBooks don’t appear to be much different than the Kindle application for the iPhone.

While the interface is clearly better, Amazon still has the ability to make new interfaces on top of their existing digital book distribution system.

Whole New Goldrush For App Developers!

While we don’t know how many iPads will be sold, the product video touts a new gold rush for app developers. We aren’t as convinced but given the wider screen, there’s definitely an opportunity to make new adaptations of existing applications. If you want to build an application that integrates with a camera, you may want to hold off until iPad 2.0, since this version doesn’t have one.

  • I admire their endless support, and endless believing .
If since young age they receive good influence by person they admire, they would have became great people with great vision about work and determination. Even if this person only an entertainer.
I think it's because they believe that hardwork will be payed off. And this belief come from their Idol, Rain. How many entertainers can cast this strong belief in our world today?

I think it will be great for the coffee table but not something i would ever probably take out of the house. Isee why some people think it's a fail.
  • I think the only thing it has behind it is the apple name. There were many floors with the iPhone on launch, no photo messaging etc but this all got forgotten in a status symbol
  • This is cool! And so interested! Are u have more posts like this? Plese tell me, thanks
  • I read some reports about the Apple's new product iPad, two of the major shortages are USB interface and Flash playing capability. Imagine that how can we use a computer without any USB port? However, I believe that Steve Jobs must have done a lot of survey then decided the specification like that. So I think it still could be a successful product.
  • They're cool, but that's it.

They should just make the rumoured netbook everyone is clawing for.

The people commenting on the iPad now may not necessarily be where the growth market is. Expectations are unnecessarily high. In time it will evolve. But think of teenagers wanting to replace their bedroom TV's/computers with the iPad. My Dad who is 65+ wants one; he doesn't care for VOIP, webcams blah blah. He instantly understands how it works.

Agree with 'Mac Dude' wrt eye strain. But it may not be a problem wrt sales. Users may not want to read Harry Potter on a backlit display, but newspaper/magazine sales won't do too badly.
  • I think the ipad does have some potential, but it will come down the road. If later models incorporate VOIP capabilities and a built-in webcam, then it would be a decent video conferencing solution. It also has some promise as a gaming console, but it will need to be proven. I think the 2nd or 3rd generation ipad will probably rock your socks off, so I think I am going to wait.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking after watching the commercial and banter. I am such a technology hound and while I own ZERO Apple products, I recently bought my wife an iPhone and have some to see that it is an excellent piece of machinery. The iPad is obviously just a big iPhone. In that sense it is a desirable gadget (the price doesn't hurt either). On the other hand, to me the bigness means it's just makes it more cumbersome. The form factor makes this nearly the perfect fail IMO. How am I supposed to hold this thing? Am I supposed to sit it on my lap? Am I supposed to sit it on a table? Does it do more than an iPhone? Does it do as much as a laptop? Why am I supposed to want this other than that I'm obsessed with tech? It feels like it would just be another toy that would be difficult to carry, easy to break but worst of all, completely redundant for most people ... including me.

Let the litany of iJokes continue!

    Son of Lisa still birth.
  • If I was going to use a tablet in place of old fashioned paper their going to have to eliminate the the emission screen eye strain issues. Perhaps a duel mode display that switches from eletronic paper to an LCD overlay layer only for dynamic interface interaction and video.

I remember seeing the Lisa commercial of a guy kicking back in his office mousing around, I thought "that interface is not very productive" maybe the tablet gesture thing will prove it's worth in time.

Not sure if this commercial with Kevin Cosner was the one I saw
