If you’ve ever launched a website you know that before launching, you set up a staging environment to ensure that it’s going to function properly when it goes live. If you work within the digital department of a large corporation, you should definitely know that the process for transitioning a site involves testing it first. MySpace however has redirected the entire imeem site to a page which says “MySpace is working to migrate your imeem playlist to MySpace Music. We’ll email you about that once we have more details.” Really?
The main reason that this transition was an absolute disaster is that they essentially killed a community. Perhaps MySpace wanted to kill their competition for under a reported $1 million. However they didn’t convert the biggest asset of the company: the community. Now all the artists will end up on a page which tells them that they should signup for MySpace Music, and users are told to standby until they get an email.
Owen Van Natta wrote to the following earlier today:
In the coming weeks, our team will be working to take the aspects of imeem that users love and migrate them to MySpace Music. We’ll start that transition today by redirecting imeem users to MySpace Music to discover their favorite music.
So if MySpace is working on it, why would they start off by killing the entire site? It makes absolutely no sense at all. There are only a few logical explanations: MySpace wanted the technology behind imeem, MySpace wanted to kill imeem, or they wanted a quick way to promote MySpace music. While a $1 million acquisition probably isn’t the biggest issue facing MySpace (they have some other announcements tomorrow), throwing away new acquisitions in the toilet probably doesn’t make much sense though.
Perhaps they’ll be able to migrate the imeem community however this doesn’t appear to be a great start.

I spent a good amount of time over the past two years making those playlists only to have 3 or 4 of 25 songs "imported". I'm really happy with Imeem for NOT warning me about this before they did it. I really enjoyed being locked out of my uploaded files and playlists.
I'm also really pleased that Myspace failed to AT LEAST let me download a text file of playlists and favorites assigned to my Imeem account. It's really helping to foster that sense of community. With all the time and care Myspace takes to organize their site, it's a mystery how myspace.com came to look like someone vomited all over it, driving people to join facebook instead.
SO pleased!

Seems like it's pretty cool. Well, I just joined yesterday, so I can't really say much!

www.myspace.com/music/import-playlists.
Here, I'll copy the steps off the email I got (from MySpace):
1. Access your playlist by clicking here:
www.myspace.com/music/import-playlists.
You will need to be logged into MySpace.
Log in or sign up for MySpace.
2. Enter your imeem e-mail address.
3. Click import and we will retrieve your playlists.
4. Upon completion, your playlists will be stored in
"My Music," our playlist management tool. All
playlists can be identified by the name
"import_[yourplaylistname]"
Though they might be some problems like this one:
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh80/Guardia...
Which I got, and I'm trying to ask MySpace if they can help.
(Yeah, I sent a complaint.)
This problem might only affect people in different countries. Like, Canada.
Because some people seem to have no trouble of receiving their playlists.
Hope this helps!

Basically the new myspace "promise" page is a "Hope you enjoyed your music. We own it now, FCUK YOU and have a nice day" page.
YES it was a free service, but I spent HOURS upon HOURS getting it just the way I wanted, I had hundreds of songs on some playlists, and no record now of what all the songs were, and not sure whether or where I will be able to find all of them again on MySpace or somewhere else, NOT that I WANT to find it on MySpace.
Now as I am starting to build up in Napster, the interface I am PAYing for is not as good, it is buggy, and also, I cannot upload my own sounds and music to it as I could with Imeem.
Of course I had to get the buttfcuk trifecta, and my computer decided to wipe out my whole ITunes library the same week (I had been trying to keep it close to what was in Imeem).
I just want to scream and cry, and MySpace Music? You can slit your wrists and die.
Seriously, the project "manager" over this at MySpace? I want their name so we can harass them on YouTube, MySpace, FaceBook, LinkedIn, and everywhere else in their private life and make it hell. They shouldn't ever be able to work anywhere else again - ever!

Myspace is stupid for doing this. I agree with a few previous comments of at least giving a weeks notice before the sites were switched. If I had known the transition was going to be made before it happened, I would have gone through all my favorited music and written down all the names of the artists and albums...now I can't.
Myspace officially sucked hardcore the day they switched, and I am not using it for anything ever again. Having the old imeem site back up would definitely make me happy.

It's kind of hard to move on, but I guess this just proves that you can't always take things for granted.

i feel the same way seriously I was going to sign on to imeem like usual and listen to one of my playlists that I could only get on imeem and BANG it directs me to fucking myspace. I love that you used the word community because that's exactly what it was and now its gone. it's just plain old disapointing.

Along with the friends we have, they'd better have our Groups, Playlists, Music, Blogs, and Favorited items migrated, too! *makes an annoyed face* Or else this will really suck. Plus, they'd better make sure all the awesome profile themes we've created, are migrated as well!!
Yes, "love and migrate" to MySpace makes me feel sick, too.
