RB Weekly Highlights: Facebook is now Two Times Bigger than MySpace

Like we didn’t know that this is going to happen? We all see this coming right? Facebook continously growing in terms of pageviews and unique visitors, leaving behind MySpace? Well, it will just be a matter of time before every social networking fanatics turn to Facebook for their daily fix of – telling the world what they’ve just eaten, what they’ve just finished reading, which cause they’ve just joined, and practically any minute details of their lives. And did we say, they do all of those in a vibrant and eternally alive social networking site?

facebookvsmyspaceFacebook is now  two times bigger the size of MySpace, and so TechCrunch reported based on the latest ComScore Metrics. If you’re still not convince, the figures say in December Facebook was able to pull in 222 million visitors. Compared with the 200 million unique worldwide visitors it had in November 2000, this amounts to a 10.8% month-over-month growth rate. And another way of looking it is that 22% of the total internet users visited Facebook in December. As for MySpace’s visitors, well it’s only around 125 million.

For the page view numbers of MySpace and Facebook, the trend is no different. Facebook’s got 80 billion monthly page views against 43 billion of MySpace.

Alright enough of these numbers. So, Facebook is now bigger than MySpace, so what? Are the numbers the only thing that matter in the social networking site wars? Apparently, MySpace didn’t think so.  In a comment sent to TC, MySpace say that despite the lower eyeballs, MySpace still managed to stay profitable especially in this trying times. Being on top of the social networking industry in the U.S. brings MySpace more profit and monetization opportunities. And that’s what matters especially in times like this.

Point well taken.  And granting that MySpace is still raking in more money than Facebook because of a successful site ads management, still the unique visitors and user engagement on the site still matters, especially in the long run.

MySpace maybe earning more than Facebook right now. But with the eyeballs and pageviews that Facebook is getting and will continue to get, it will only be a matter of time before Facebook eclipsed even MySpace’s revenues.

Facebook just needs a good “site monetization program.”
