Top Social Network Age Distributions

Rapleaf, a company which regularly produces studies on social networks, has released a new one about the age distribution of users on MySpace, Facebook, Flickr and LinkedIn. Here are some highlights of that study:

- 120 million social network profiles (total) were found, with each person averaging 2-3 social networks

- Women and the 14-24 year old demographic are more likely to use Myspace and Facebook than other demographics (the 14-24 year old demographic represents 65.5% and 66.25% of total users respectively)

- Men and the 25-34 year old demographic are more likely to use LinkedIn and Flickr than other demographics (the 25-34 year old demographic represents 51.0% and 38.1% of total users respectively)

It’s interesting to see that the age distributions are all heavily skewed toward a younger demographic. LinkedIn has the oldest demographic overall but the most popular age group is those members between the ages of 25 and 34.

  • childlike
I cant help but think that Myspace is corrupting the youth of today
  • Its no surprise that younger generation make up most of social network users. I can;t help but witness our daughter spent most of their time in front of a computer chatting with their friends on Facebook. Even my flatemate, who is not that young - he is near 30, still uses facebook and beboo everyday!

I think as society we need to something to prevent our children from wasting time on these unproductive social media stuff.
  • Well This was kind of interesting. Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.
  • So Myspace is a leading site between teenagers.
  • It’s interesting to see that the age distributions are all heavily skewed toward a younger demographic.
