Super Bowl Ads to Get the Social Treatment

I am not a big sports fan, much to the disappointment of my father I am sure, I had to be told yesterday that the Giants were in the Super Bowl. To be honest everything I know about football I learned from the Sega Genesis’ Madden game.
My inability to follow sports stems not from my hatred of games, I actually attend hockey, baseball and soccer matches regularly, but because I don’t watch TV. I own a TV, its a 42 inch plasma that is hooked up to my PS3, but I refuse to watch anything on cable or broadcast TV.
The reason I gave up on TV was two fold; Reality TV (I live in reality), and shows like Grey’s Anatomy (they are all horrible human beings). All of these shows somehow are still on TV because of the demigods of TV, Nielsen Families.
TV has been on a downward spiral for some time. DVRs, the internet, movies on demand and now the writers strike has plunged the viewers of TV to record lows. Trying to bring TV into the social realm Nielsen has created a website named Heynielsen.
The web site lets you follow the buzz on TV shows and TV ads. In an interesting twist heynielsen is hosting a special page just so viewers can rank the Super Bowl ads as they happen.
If you are a TV watcher the website is very interesting and the online Super Bowl ad critiques will be fun way to prepare yourself for the water cooler on Monday. Of course all the information you put on the site is going to be reviewed and categorized by a minion of low paid analysts but it is a small price to pay for getting your voice heard.
Take a look at the heynielsen site and let me know what you think. Are any TV lovers out there willing to have their comments and opinions scoured by market researchers for a chance to have their opinions heard? Let me now.
