Shoeboxed Copies Facebook Beacon

On Friday, Duncan Riley posted about a new service being provided by the receipt tracking website, Shoeboxed. Following shopping at e-commerce sites across the web, you can share with your friends what you have purchased. The service suggests that “if you got it, flaunt it.” Without the social shopping features, Shoebox provides a highly useful tool for tracking all of your purchases and storing images of the receipts as well as each of the items that you have purchased.

As the website states, “At Shoeboxed, we’re making it socially acceptable to strut your stuff. Show off everything you’ve been buying and browse through other people’s stuff. Then let out your inner Mean Girl and go nuts with our stereotyping feature. Using the mouse is almost as easy as real-life stereotyping!” I don’t know about you but I have been dying to let out my inner mean girl. From that statement you can tell what demographic they are targeting.

Personally, I would love to be able to track all my receipts but I’m not sure that I have the time to scan every receipt. Maybe this is a tool that would be more useful for those with personal assistants. Would you use shoeboxed?

Thanks for the write-up! If your main concern is actually being able to get receipts into your accont, never fear. When you registered, you got a new “shoeboxed.com” e-mail address that you should use when you shop online. That way, everytime you buy something online, the receipt will come to Shoeboxed and automatically be organized with the rest of your purchases. And you don’t HAVE to share your stuff. You have complete control over your privacy.

And sure you can think we copied fbook, but those features have obviously been in the works since long before fbook launched beacon. I mean, we’re not THAT fast at programming! We also already have a fbook app that’s better than beacon since it works with all stores, not just affiliates.

The best user experience for me would be the first steps of converting the receipt to a scan. One day when I pay for something using a card maybe they will send a copy of the receipt to my online account. That is where Shoebox type applicaitons can help. I have not checked them out but I agree that this is a concept that has value. I am going to join provided they are free :)

    Hi Dan,

I agree that this is great for web based receipts but for tracking my offline purchases I’ll have to scan al my receipts.

In regards to the “copying Facebook,” I just thought it was a good title ;)

    Best,
    Nick
